About Us

Initial funding of $7.5 million dollars for 3 years was provided by the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundations. To achieve the Center’s mission, the Translational Acceleration Grants (TAG) program was established to fund scientists for one-year with awards of up to $100,000. Only Caltech or UCLA professorial faculty may apply for a TAG. Collaborative Caltech-UCLA projects with a proven track record of ongoing interaction and a critical mass of expertise are encouraged.

Highly competitive applications boasting potential for clinical applications are considered by an advisory board consisting of Caltech and UCLA faculty. To date, there are 18 TAG award recipients, plus several project-specific programs being funded for a total of about $4 million.

The JCTM supports research in many laboratories with cross-institutional relations and together those laboratories boast a solid foundation of support for translational work from other sources amounting to about $40 million dollars of committed funds, largely from NIH.
